Millikin Punches Ticket to NCAA DIII Tournament

The Millikin University baseball team won the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Tournament 6-5 over North Park University and earned the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships.
 
The Big Blue will find out where they will play when the field is announced on Monday, May 11 at 11 a.m.
 
The Big Blue won the game in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the ninth on a wild pitch with Pete Britton scoring the winning run. Britton opened the inning reaching on a North Park error. The Vikings then walked Julian Cabanin to set up a force play. Carder Reich then loaded the bases with a perfect bunt.
 
Millikin opened the scoring in the fourth when Reich singled home Pete Britton.
 
North Park took a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning. Eli Johnson had a run scoring single, and Rylan Kawakami drove in a run with a ground out.
 
Millikin regained the lead in the bottom of the inning on a two-run single from Britton to make it a 3-2 game.
 
The Vikings took a two-run lead with three in the sixth inning. Reyn Matasuzaki had an RBI single. North Park's second run in the inning scored on a Big Blue error. Vinnie Marvucic then drove in the final run with a base hit.
 
Anderson Decker had an RBI single in the eighth to make it a 5-4 Vikings lead.
 
Britton and Reich each had three hits for Millikin. Mick Niebrugge had two hits including a double.
 
Taylor Joseph and Marvucic had two hits for the Vikings.
 
Gavin Houchins earned the win for Millikin pitching a scoreless ninth with one strikeout to improve to 4-0 on the season. Nolan Reiman pitched two and two-thirds hitless innings with two strikeouts.
 
Millikin is now 35-8 while North Park season ends at 25-19.
