Men's Soccer Comes Up Short in 2026 Season Opener

St. Louis, MO – Millikin University Men's Soccer opened the season on Monday afternoon against 14th ranked Washington University in St. Louis. The Big Blue fell to the Bears by a score of 5-0.

Wash U would get things started with a goal in the eighth minute when Sebastian Valdes knocked one in. The Bears would keep the pressure on scoring in the 25th and 29th minutes thanks to goals from Henry Wong-Foy and Sebastian Valdes. With less than 10 minutes remaining Ethan Wirtschafter would net another goal for the Bears, increasing their lead to four.  Wirtschafter would find the back on the net once more in the second half marking the final goal of the game.

"You know what kind of quality you are up against when you play Wash U, I thought at times tonight we matched them," said Head Coach Charlie Ward. "Playing these top teams, you have to score when you have the chance and we didn't today. I thought we showed a lot of promise and overall improvement from last year."

The Big Blue will continue their four-game road trip to start the season with a trip to Aurora, Illinois where they'll match up with Aurora University at 2:00 pm on Sunday, September 6.
