Big Blue Softball Wins Twice in Florida

         The Millikin softball team won two games at the Spring Games in Clermont, Florida on March 23.  The Big Blue defeated Rochester Institute of Technology 7-4 and St. Norbert College 9-1 in five innings.    
         In the first game, Millikin scored two runs in the first inning after a base loaded error by Rochester.  The Tigers scored two in the bottom of the first and then two more in the second to jump out to a 4-2 advantage.
         Millikin tied the game in the third.  Kristen Iversen had an RBI single and she scored on a triple by Cathy Lebryk.  The Big Blue scored the three winning runs in the top of the seventh.  Brooke Heimerl had a two out single to drive home Iversen who opened the inning with a double.  Alexis Dockins had a two run single to make it 7-4 Millikin.
         Iversen, Dockins and Alyssa Voegele each had two hits for the Big Blue.  Whitley Baker was the winning pitcher throwing all seven innings allowing eight hits and two earned runs.
         McKenzie Martin and Emily Shoemaker each had two hits for the Tigers.
         Game two was all Millikin with the Big Blue scoring seven runs in the second inning.  The Big Blue added a run in the fourth and ended the game by the run rule with a run in the bottom of the fifth.
         Dockins, Baker and Devin Curry each had two hits for the Big Blue with Dockins and Curry picking up RBIs.  Alyssa Visvardis was 1-3 with three RBIs.  Voegele had a run scoring single and Amber Morgan and Jordan Themer drove home runs for the Big Blue.
         Cathy Lebryk was the winning pitcher allowing three hits and one run in five innings of work
         Kailyn Amundson had a homerun for the St. Norbert run.
         Millikin is now 6-6 and St. Norbert falls to 0-6.
         The Big Blue is back in action on Thursday facing the College of St. Benedict and Oswego State starting at 1 p.m. ET.
