Millikin Softball Drops Home Doubleheader

         The Millikin softball team lost a conference doubleheader to Carthage College on April 16 at Rotary Park in Decatur, Illinois.  The Lady Reds won game one 5-4 and scored a come from behind 8-4 victory in game two.
         In game one, Millikin got off to an early 1-0 lead.  Alexis Dockins led off the first with a double and later scored on a Carthage error to make it 1-0. 
         Carthage rallied for four runs in the fourth inning to go up 4-1.  Makenzie Walker had a two run double to fuel the rally. 
         Millikin's Kirsten Iversen doubled home two in the fifth inning to make it a 4-3 Lady Reds advantage. 
         Carthage pushed across an important insurance run in the top of the seventh to make it 5-3.
         Alyssa Visvardis hit her fifth home run of the season in the bottom of the seventh, but the Big Blue rallied died with two runners on base.  The home run gave Visvardis 21 career home runs setting new Millikin record.
         Visvardis had three hits in the game and Iversen added two for Millikin.
         Katie Herron was the winning pitcher for Carthage striking out 15 Big Blue batters.
         Carthage won game two 8-4 with a walk off grand slam in the bottom of the seventh inning by Darian Pelsor. 
         Millikin scored three in the sixth inning to take a 4-3 lead, but Carthage tied the game with a bases loaded walk setting the stage for Pelsor dramatic game ender.
         Visvardis was 3-4 for Millikin.  Alyssa Voegele had a three run homer in the sixth inning put the Big Blue ahead.
         Pelsor had two hits for Carthage and Kristine Herdegen was 3-3 including a home run.
         Herron picked up her second win of the day pitching all seven innings and recording nine strikeouts.
         Millikin is now 12-14, 1-5 while Carthage improves to 11-11, 4-4.
         Millikin will play at Augustana on Sunday, April 17.
