Millikin Softball Drops Home Doubleheader

          The Millikin softball team lost a home doubleheader to Wheaton College on April 23 at Rotary Park in Decatur, Illinois.  The Thunder won game one 6-1 and took game two 4-2.
          Game one was a tight contest until the final inning.  Wheaton scored two runs in the second inning and held a 2-0 advantage until the seventh.  The Thunder added four runs in the top of the seventh and the Big Blue got on the board in the bottom of the inning.
          Devin Curry had Millikin's lone RBI in the game.  Kirsten Iversen was 3-3 for the Big Blue with a run scored.
          Wheaton was led by pitcher Katie Thornton who earned the win throwing six innings and holding Millikin to five hits and no runs while striking out six.  Ellen Ranandt and Christina Sandstedt each had three hits for the Thunder.  Sandstedt had two RBIs.  Kelly Thornton was 2-4.
          Wheaton jumped out to a 4-0 lead in game two after three innings before Millikin rallied with two in the seventh.  Thornton was again dominant in the circle holding Millikin to eight hits and two runs over seven innings with six strikeouts.  Alyssa Leonard had two hits to pace the Thunder attack.
          Both of Millikin's runs scored on a double by Iversen.  She picked up two more hits for the Big Blue.  Alyssa Visvardis was also 2-4 for Millikin.
          Millikin is now 13-17, 2-8 while Wheaton goes to 25-9, 10-4.
          Millikin will host North Park University on Sunday, April 24 at 1 p.m. for a Senior Day doubleheader.
