Millikin Softball Splits Final Home Doubleheader

          The Millikin softball team split its final home doubleheader of the year with North Park University on April 24 at Rotary Park in Decatur, Illinois.  Millikin won game one 5-1, but the Vikings rallied to win game two 8-6.
          In game one, Millikin scored a single run in the first inning on an RBI single from sophomore Alyssa Voegele.  The Big Blue went up 2-0 in the third on an RBI double by senior Kirsten Iversen.  Millikin added three more in the fifth.  Senior Alyssa Visvardis led off the inning with her sixth home run of the season.  Iversen added another RBI single in the inning and the Big Blue added a run on a wild pitch.
          Millilkin celebrated Senior Day on its final home date of the season and the Big Blue seniors came up big.  Iverson was 3-3 with two RBIs and Visvardis had two hits.  Senior Whitley Baker was the winning pitcher in game one throwing seven innings allowing only five hits and one earned run while striking out five.  Voegele also collected two hits in the game.
          Jade Acevedo homered for the Vikings lone run.
          In game two, North Park led 3-2 in the fourth before the Vikings broke open the game with a five run inning. 
          Down 8-2, Millikin fought back with two in the fifth and two in the seventh, but couldn't overcome the six run deficit.
          Visvardis continued her hot hitting going 3-4 with three RBIs.  Alexis Dockins was 2-3 with two runs scored.  Voegele had two RBIs. 
          Amara Leith led the North Park attack in game two going 3-4.  Acevedo had two hits and two RBIs including her second home run of the day.
          In addition to Iversen, Visvardis and Baker, Millikin honored seniors Lena Dyer, Amber Morgan and Kelli Layton in ceremonies between games of the double header.
          Millikin is now 14-18, 3-9 while North Park goes to 8-25, 5-7.
          The Big Blue have two makeup games this week starting with a trip to Elmhurst on April 26 and a road double header at MacMurray College on April 27.  The Big Blue close out the season at Illinois College on April 30 and at Washington University-St. Louis on May 1.
