Millikin Men's Soccer Excited to Open 2017 Season

Heading into the 2017 season the Millikin men's soccer team is hoping to build on its streak of three straight winning seasons.
          Millikin Head Coach Chad Jones has beefed up the non-conference schedule this season hoping to better prepare the Big Blue for College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) competition. After starting six freshman last season, Jones believes the 2017 Big Blue have the talent and experience to qualify for the CCIW Tournament with a top four conference finish.
          Jones is expecting big things from sophomore forward Trey Knighton. Jones believes Knighton's hard work in the offseason will payoff with goals during the season.
          Senior Michael Longo, junior Patrick Dolan and sophomore Ivan Lopez will be counted on for contributions in the midfield. Longo is a team captain who communicates well and keeps the Big Blue organized on the field.
          The Millikin defense will be keyed by sophomore center backs Austin Taylor and Bradyn Nokes. In addition to solidifying the defense, Jones will look to Taylor and Nokes for scoring from set pieces.
          Senior goalie Trevor Creek returns for his second season as a starter for the Big Blue. Jones believes Creek is improving every game and will turn in some shutouts in 2017.
          Jones is expecting significant contributions from newcomers Rudy Mathieson and Connor Foley as well.
          Millikin opens the season with a road trip to Michigan to face Alma and Kalamazoo. The Big Blue will then travel to Ohio on Sept. 8-9 to face Ohio Wesleyan and Capital. Millikin will play its first six games on the road before opening the season at home on Sept. 23 against Principia College.
