Millikin Tennis Wraps Up Successful CCIW Preview

           The Millikin Men's tennis team had a successful weekend at the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Fall Invitational played on September 16-17 at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin.                    
        Senior Connor Sacks defeated Lukasz Jaworski of Carthage for the third flight singles championship title 6-4, 6-4.
Sophomore Jacob Palley faced Augustana's Calo DeRezende in the Third Place Match of singles number one flight. Palley served strongly, cracking a total of 12 aces in the match. Palley would go on to win 7-5, 6-3.
        In the third place match for the number two singles flight, Colin Sandgren defeated Peter Alex of Augustana 3-6, 6-2, 11-9 in a tight match with Sandgren saving three match points.
        In the fourth singles flight championship, Millikin's Greg Schwoeppe went up against Augustana's Jack Morkin. Though Schwoeppe fought valiantly, the score ultimately ended up against him, with the match ending 6-4, 7-6 (7-4), 10-12.
        In the third place match in the fifth singles flight, the Big Blue's Dane Pierantoni defeated Mitchel Gjeerseth of Carroll 6-2 6-2.
        In the Championship match of the sixth singles flight, Logan Bennett lost to Guilherme Calixto from Augustana 3-6, 0-6.
        Moving on to doubles action, the Millikin pair of Palley and Sandgren took the first doubles flight championship with an 8-4 win.
