Men's Tennis Scores Victory

The Millikin men's tennis team defeated the Illinois Institute of Technology 5-4 on February 11 at the XS Tennis Village in the Southside of Chicago.
In doubles, the number one duo of Jacob Palley and Colin Sandgren rolled over IIT's Rivich and Rana by a score of 8-3. The trend continued into two doubles as the Millikin pair of Connor Sacks and Jacob Hamilton took care of business against Abdo and Laitinen, 8-4. Things tightened up a bit into three doubles, where the trusty Millikin team of Dane Pierantoni and Greg Schwoeppe won over Zhong and Croonquist 9-7 in a very exciting match.
In singles, Palley took on IIT's Zhong at the one position. Zhong would outlast Palley 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(4) in a very intense and exciting match to the end. At the three position, Sacks took on IIT's Rana and defeated him by a routine score of 6-1, 6-4. At four, Hamilton took on IIT's Rivich, but was defeated by a score of 6-2, 7-6(3). The five singles spot put Greg Schwoeppe up against IIT's Laitinen, where Schweoppe would fall by a score of 6-4, 6-0. The six position put Logan Bennett up against IIT's Croonquist, where Bennett lost by a score of 6-2, 6-4.
While all of these matches were being played, it was the first match to go on, the match at the two position between Colin Sandgren and IIT's Abdo that would clinch the dual for Millikin. After dropping the first set 2-6, Sandgren fought back in the second, taking it 6-4. The third set was a battle on both sides. Long, grueling rallies were the theme of the third as both Sandgren and Abdo fought for the upperhand in the match. In the end, it was Sandgren who found the extra spark and won the match by a score of 2-6, 6-4, 7-5. With Sandgren winning the match, Millikin clinched its first dual match win of the year.
The Millikin men travel to Lake Forest on February 24 where they will take on Lake Forest College as well as the CCIW foes from Bloomington, Illinois Wesleyan.
