Millikin Tennis Wins Two Matches

The Millikin men's tennis team won two dual matches of February 24 at the Racine Tennis Club in Racine, Wisconsin.
In the first match, the Big Blue took on College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) rivals Illinois Wesleyan with the Big Blue winning 9-0.  In doubles, the number one pair of Connor Sacks and Colin Sandgren defeated the Wesleyan pair of Tim Hughes and Kurt Meyer by a score of 8-2. At two, senior Tom Emola paired up with Jacob Hamilton to take down IWU's Justin Piotrowski and Ryan Yoo 8-4. Finally, at three, Dane Pierantoni and Greg Schweoppe took down Jimmy Kase and Dylan Mikali 8-3.
In singles, Millikin swept all six spots to complete the sweep. At one, Sandgren defeated Meyer 6-2, 6-0. Sacks beat Piotrowski at two by a score of 6-1, 6-2. At three, Hamilton defeated Hughes 6-3, 6-1. The Big Blue's dominance continued at the four spot where Schwoeppe rolled over Yoo by a score of 6-2, 6-0. At five singles, Logan Bennett had a close first set against Mikaili, before he pulled away to win the match 7-6 (4), 6-1. Finally, at six, Pierantoni defeated Kase 6-4, 6-1.
Millikin defeated Lake Forest College 5-4. Millikin's dominance in doubles showed up big once again as the Big Blue swept all three doubles matches. At one, the Millikin pair of Jacob Palley and Sandgren defeated Nick Zazove and Matt Kacyn of Lake Forest by a score of 8-3. At two, Hamilton teamed up with Sacks to take down Brett O'Brien and Scott Drier 8-4. The trend continued into three doubles, where the pair of Pierantoni and Schweoppe took care of business once again with a win over Brant Christensen and Joe Bove 8-3.
Being up 3-0 heading into singles once again, the Big Blue would only need to win two singles matches to clinch the dual. These two wins came from Schweoppe and Bennett. At the five spot, Schweoppe put Millikin one match closer to the win, with a win of his own against Bove, 6-1, 6-0. At six, Bennett sealed the match for the Big Blue. Playing some of his best tennis, Bennett rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Lake Forest's Brant Christensen.
The Millikin men's tennis team plays their first home match of the season against Cornell College next Sunday, March 4 at the Decatur Athletic Club.
