Millikin Tracks Turn in Strong Performance on Day 1 of CCIW Championships

          The Millikin men's and women's track and field team turned in a strong performance at the opening day of the 2019 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Outdoor Track and Field Championships held on May 3 at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
          Day one included several athletes competing in event finals and numerous events holding prelims to set the field for Saturday's finals. Athletes are competing for a top eight finish in each event to earn All-Conference honors.
          Two Big Blue women earned All-Conference in the Long Jump. Brea Blackwell was second at 5.45 (17-10.75) meters with Brianna Niebrugge finishing in fourth at 5.31 (17-5.25) meters.
          Alexis Obermeyer finished seventh in the Hammer at 42.05 meters. The event was contested on May 2 at North Central College due to water in the throwing area at Carthage.
          Marshun Hart was fifth in the Long Jump at 6.67 meters (21-0.75).
          The Millikin men performed well in Friday's prelims. Freshman Ben Kuxmann had the fastest time in the 800 Meter prelims of 1:53.44 to qualify for Saturday's finals.
The Millikin men had three runners qualify for the finals of the 100 Meters. Senior Christian Zenon ran the second fastest time in the prelims of 10.85 seconds. Freshman Eddie Wilson was fourth fastest at 10.92 seconds and Jackson Allen was next at 11.00 seconds.
          The Big Blue trio dominated the 200 Meter prelims as well with Allen turning in the fastest time of 22.02 seconds followed by Wilson at 22.13 seconds. Zenon was the third qualifier for Saturday's finals with a time of 22.29.
          Dalton Collins qualified in both the 400 Meter and 110 Meter Hurdles. His 400 Meter Hurdle time was second fastest at 55.05 and his time in the 110 Hurdles was 15.67, which was fifth fastest in the prelims.
          Ethan Meyer qualified for the finals of the 400 Meters in 50.29 seconds, which was seventh best in the prelims.
          Millikin had the top two times in the prelims of the Women's 800 Meters. Mackenzie Dixon was fastest in 2:16.95 followed by Morgan Powers in 2:17.95 to advance to the finals.
          Erin Lukens ran the second fastest time in the prelims of the 400 Meters in 58.99. She will be in the finals along with freshman Hailey Wimberly who was fourth fastest at 59.39 and Brianna Niebrugge who turned in a time of 1:01.22. Lukens qualified in the 400 Meter Hurdles with the third fastest prelim time of 1:06.21.
Alyssa Vignos and Charlize Pate both qualified for the finals in the 100 Meter Hurdles. Vignos has the seventh fastest prelim time of 15.43 seconds followed by Pate at 15.91. Vignos will also be the 400 Meter Hurdles after turning in the seventh best time of 1:09.77.
