Big Blue Women’s Soccer Aims for Success Season in 2021

DECATUR, Illinois—Head Coach Ian Doherty and the Millikin University women's soccer team are exciting to be returning to the pitch for a full season of action.

The Big Blue played mainly exhibition games in the spring with only two games counting in the records books. The Millikin women's are excited at the return of a full season and ready for competition in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin.

"We are very excited to be back competing again," said Doherty! "It's been a long wait, but the team has shown incredible resiliency and enthusiasm. We've been thrilled with the culture of the team and how they want to compete for each other."

Millikin returns seven seniors that have seen significant action over the last three seasons. The group is lead by forward Maddy Wood (St. Charles, Mo., Francis Howell North H.S.). Wood led the Big Blue in scoring in 2019 with five goals and one assist. She had three total goals in the spring with two coming in exhibition play.
Other experienced seniors include Faith Fitzsimmons (Mt. Prospect, Prospect H.S), Abby King (Fishers, Ind., H.S.), goalkeeper Hope Limoges (St. Charles, Mo., Francis Howell H.S.), Emily Lopez (Chicago, Lane Tech H.S.), Amanda Noser (Ballwin, Mo., Parkway South H.S.) and Maddi Pabst (Lake St. Louis, Mo, Incarnate Word Academy).

The Big Blue are expecting contributions from three sophomores including Bailee Blecker (Loves Park, Harlem H.S.), Faith Marinier (Palos Park, Amos Alonzo Stagg H.S.) and goalkeeper Sophie Dorgan (Bloomington, University H.S.)

While Doherty will be counted on his returners, he adds that is excited for our enthusiastic freshmen class!

The Big Blue open the season on Wednesday, September 1 at Knox College. Millikin opens its home season on Saturday at 5 p.m. vs. Westminster College at Frank M. Lindsay Field.
