Men's Tennis Splits Pair of Matches in Indiana

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Big Blue men's tennis team opened the spring portion of their season on Saturday, February 12 in Terre Haute, Ind. Millikin matched up against DePauw in their opening match before facing Hanover in their second competition of the day. 

DePauw swept the Big Blue in the first match of the day. The pair of Wyatt Metzger and Thomas Partridge defeated Cole Phillips and Theodor Wolf at No. 1 singles 3-8, Millikin's pair of Holden Owens and Clayton Maack fell to Billy Louiselle and Will Sultan 4-8, and Cory Erickson and James Broach were defeated by Gordian Bruns and Ryan McCook 0-8 in doubles play. 

On the singles side, Maack was defeated 3-6, 4-6 by Partridge. Wolf fell to Metzger at No. 2 1-6, 0-6. Owens was defeated 1-6, 2-6 at No. 3 by Bruns, Phillips fell to Watson 0-6, 3-6, Erickson was taken down by Grayson Zylstra in twin 0-6 sets, and Broach fell to McCook 1-6, 1-6 at No. 6.

Millikin bounced back and took a close contest against Hanover. Hanover's team of Charley Williams and Pedro Macedo picked up a 5-8 victory over Broach and Erickson at No. 3 doubles. Maack and Owens evened the score with an 8-6 win at No. 2 over Luke Kroeger and Gustavo Assumpcao. Hanover claimed an advantage in a 7-8 (6-8) No. 1 singles match with Joey Keal and Jedrek Brodzki defeating Wolf and Phillips. 

On the singles side, Maack was defeated by Keal. After dropping the first set in 6-7 in a 5-7 tiebreaker, Maack took the second set by a 7-5 margin, but fell in the tiebreak set 3-10. Wolf fell to Brodzki after taking the first set 6-1, falling in two straight tiebreaker sets 6-7 (5-7, 7-9). Owens defeated Pedro Macedo 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles, and Phillips followed suit with matching scores in his win over Assumpcao. Erickson defeated Kroeger at No. 4, with the first set going to a 7-6 tiebreak (7-3), then taking set two 6-4. The final win for the Big Blue at No. 6 was secured by Broach with 6-2, 6-1 set victories over Tyler Brunty. 

The Big Blue return to the indoor courts on Saturday, February 19 for matchups with two Wisconsin schools in Lake Geneva, Wis. The first match of the day features a matchup with the Warhawks of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, with the Big Blue facing Concordia University-Wisconsin in their second match of the day.
