Big Blue Men's Tennis Splits on Day Two of Iowa Roadtrip

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Big Blue men's tennis team traveled to Cedar Rapids, Iowa for the second day of their Iowa roadtrip on Saturday, February 26. Millikin split a pair of matches after falling to the host Kohawks of Coe College, then defeating the Duhawks of Loras College in a 5-4 match.

Against Loras, Millikin started off strong in doubles play with Clayton Maack and Holden Owens victorious at No. 2 by an 8-2 margin over Konnor Barth and Tommy Linkenheld. The Duhawks evened the score at No. 3 with Cory Erickson and Reiss Naylor falling to Sean Gelski and Nolan Teubel 5-8. The Big Blue captured the lead heading to the singles side with Theodor Wolf and Cole Phillips taking down Kevin Blomquist and Thomas Kampmier at No. 1 in an 8-6 tiebreak (8-7 match score).

On the singles side, Loras tied things up again at No. 6 when Eian Coad defeated Millikin's Justin Caldwell in twin 3-6 sets. Maack helped the Big Blue regain the lead with a No. 1 singles victory against Blomquist in 6-3, 6-0 sets. Owens added another tally to the wins column for MU at No. 3 with a win over Linkenheld in 6-4, 6-0 sets. The Duhawks chipped away at Millikin's lead at No. 2 when Kampmier defeated Wolf in twin 4-6 sets, but the Big Blue solidified victory with Phillips taking the No. 4 match with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Gelski. In the final match of the day, Loras was the victor when Barth defeated Erickson in matching 0-6 sets.

Against Coe, Owens picked up the lone victory in the 1-8 loss at No. 3 with 6-0, 6-4 set wins over Nathan Meskell.

Millikin will continue their road campaign on Saturday, March 5 when they travel to St. Louis, Mo. for matchups with Principia College and Lewis & Clark Community College.
