Men's Tennis Sweeps Carroll, Falls to Carthage in Wisconsin Doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Big Blue men's tennis team traveled to Wisconsin on Friday, April 8 for College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin matchups with Carroll University and Carthage College. Millikin swept Carroll in the first match of the day before falling 0-9 to Carthage in the afternoon competition.

Against Carroll, Theodor Wolf and Cole Phillips secured the first victory with an 8-0 win at No. 1 against Luke Barter and Ian Hofland. At No. 2, Clayton Maack and Holden Owens were victorious over Jack McCaffrey and Jordan Nowell by a score of 8-2. The team of James Broach and Reiss Naylor completed the doubles sweep with an 8-5 win at No. 3 against Ryan Strupp and Ben Pierson.

On the singles side, Wolf started off with twin 6-0 set victories against Barter at No. 2. Phillips followed suit with 6-0, 6-0 set scores at No. 4 over Strupp. Broach continued the pattern by picking up the next victory in 6-0, 6-0 fashion at No. 5. Justin Caldwell tallied 6-0 and 6-1 set wins over Nowell at No. 6. Owens downed Hofland at No. 3 with 6-3, 6-3 set scores, then Maack completed the sweep at No. 1 with a 6-3, 6-0 win over McCaffrey. 

With the 1-1 split on the day, men's tennis moves to 10-7 overall in the 2021-22 season. The Big Blue will continue their conference campaign on Thursday, April 14 at the Fairview Park Tennis Complex in Decatur, Ill. when they match up against Illinois Wesleyan.
