Millikin’s Shumaker named to Academic All-America® Team

DECATUR, Illinois—Millikin University senior Jake Shumaker (Decatur, Mt. Zion H.S.) was named by the College Sports Communicators (CSC) to the 2023-24 Academic All-America® Track and Field/Cross Country Third Team for NCAA Division III on July 10. The Academic All-America program® recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.

Shumaker graduated in May with a degree in Computer Science with a 3.81 grade point average.
  
In May, Shumaker finished in eighth place in the 800 Meters earning All-American honors at the 2024 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Shumaker was an Indoor All-American with a fifth place finish in the 800 Meters at the 2023 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. He finished ninth in the 2024 Indoor Track Championships earning Second Team All-American Honors.

In 2024, Shumaker was the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Champion in the 800 Meters in the outdoor season and ran leg on Millikin's 4x400 Relay team that won the conference title in both the indoor and outdoor seasons. Shumaker was second in the 800 Meters at the 2024 CCIW Indoor Championships.

During his career, Shumaker earned multiple CCIW All-Conference honors and conference individual and relay championships. He was a six-time CCIW Academic All-Conference honoree and earned CSC Academic All-District honors in 2023 and 2024.
He was honors three times as a United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Athlete.  

In outdoor track, Shumaker holds the Millikin school record in the 400 Meters at 48.46 seconds. He is second all-time in the 800 Meters at 1:51.08. He is part of the Big Blue record setting 4x400 Relay as well.

In indoor track, Shumaker holds the school record in the 600 Meters (1:20.03) and the 800 Meters (1:50.43) as well as the 4x400 and Distance Medley Relays.

Shumaker was a Millikin Scovill Prize winner in 2023. He received the Podeschi-Landacre Management Information Systems Award in 2023 and 2024 and the Mathematics and Computer Science Award in 2024.

The Division III CSC Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2023-24 Divisions III Academic All-America® programs.
