Box Score The Millikin men's soccer team picked up its second win of the season with a 3-1 road victory over Principia College on Tuesday, September 16.
The Panthers struck first in the 5th minute, but Millikin responded quickly. In the 22nd minute, senior
Landon Welch netted the equalizer off an assist from his brother,
Aidan Welch, leveling the match at 1-1.
Millikin generated steady pressure with 21 shots, including 10 on target. A breakthrough came in the 86th minute when junior
Bryce Davis netted a setup from
Landon Welch to put the Big Blue in front. Just minutes later, freshman
Blake Helvey added insurance, scoring off an assist from Davis.
Defensively, the Big Blue back line stayed sharp, limiting Principia to 9 total shots. Goalkeeper
Chase Mandra recorded three saves during the matchup.
Offensively, Davis paced the attack with six shots, while
Olav Kaldahl added four.
Nick Orr and
Noah Horner each contributed dangerous chances as well.
With the win, Millikin improves to 2-3-0 on the season. The Big Blue will return to action on September 19, at Bradley University looking to continue building momentum.
