The Millikin University women's volleyball team moved to No. 17 in this week's AVCA/TARAFLEX Division III Top 25 poll following a competitive weekend at the Trinity Fall Classic in San Antonio, Texas. The Big Blue collected 736 points in the national rankings, marking their second straight week in the Top 20.
Millikin was fueled by standout individual efforts against three ranked opponents. Junior outside hitter Addison Oyer led the attack with 33 kills on the weekend. Delaney Higgins was the kills leader against UW-Platteville in the four-set victory, tallying 16, with Kyra Carothers adding 13. Carothers earned All-Tournament Team honors, tallying 12.0 blocks on the weekend, 25 kills, and five service aces. Alyssa Frederking set the pace offensively, tallying 59 assists, with Samantha Breckenridge adding 33 assists.Â
Defensively, Oyer, Charley Condill, and Kylie Ramirez each tallied over 20 digs in their three matches against ranked opponents.
The Big Blue opened play at the Classic with battles against No. 23 NYU and No. 10 Trinity (Texas), gaining valuable experience against nationally recognized programs before securing their first win of the season over Platteville.
Millikin (1–2) returns to action next weekend at the KTIS Classic in St. Paul, Minn., where they will face another strong field of regional opponents, including the hosts, Northwestern, and Dubuque, who are each receiving votes in the AVCA poll.
