Big Blue Men's Tennis Cracks ITA Top 75

The Big Blue men's tennis team is off to a 12-3 start to their spring campaign, earning national recognition through the Intercollegiate Tennis Association top 75 rankings. In their first season under new head coach Connor Barnard, the team is in the ITA rankings for the first time in program history. The Big Blue are ranked at #70 in NCAA Division III men's tennis in the rankings released Thursday, April 2.

The ITA expanded their computerized national team rankings to a top 75 format in the 2021-22 season. The ITA rankings algorithm is based on an accumulation of win points and loss points, accounting for record, strength of schedule, and the significance of the wins and losses. As the season progresses, the value of wins and losses are constantly adjusted.

Several newcomers have made an immediate impact on the Big Blue program, with freshman Gillian Nahum garnering a 12-3 record thus far in singles, mainly at No. 1. He and doubles partner Jorge Aura are 11-3 to start the spring, playing most of their matches at No. 1. Aura boasts an 11-3 singles record, playing in the bottom half of the lineup at No. 4, 5, or 6. The lone returner, junior Matthew Kordesh, has teamed up with freshman Harry Masterman to tout a 9-2 doubles record, playing all over the doubles lineup to begin the season. Freshman Eduardo Vargas has also started off well on the singles side, playing No. 3 or 4 and recording a 9-3 record to start his Millikin career.

The Big Blue have started out their College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin campaign 1-1, facing a tough North Central squad near the beginning of their conference schedule. They'll face another tough opponent in their next matchup, meeting the Firebirds of Carthage College on the road in Kenosha, Wis. on Friday, April 10.
