Millikin Men's Golf Hosts Annual Butts Classic

Millikin Men's Golf team hosted its' annual home event on April 20-21 at Country Club of Decatur. The Butts Classic began in 2023 in honor of 1951 Millikin Alumnus Mr. James Butts. Butts was a part of Millikin's first two conference titles in 1949 and 1951. He was inducted in the Millikin Athletics Hall of Fame in 2024. The event originally was contested in the fall at South Side Country Club. This year, Country Club of Decatur played host for the reinvigorated 54-hole tournament.

The Big Blue had two teams in the 14-team field. In the first round on Monday, Millikin's "B" team edged out the "A" team by two shots and were led by Junior Dominick Emig's 2-over par 74 and a pair of 75s by Graduate Student Martin Ammeux and Freshman Ethan Noellsch. Millikin's "A" team had solid rounds by Sophomore Trevor Biggerstaff and Freshman Luke Butler shooting 74 and 75 respectively. It was 36-holes continuous for day 1 and both Millikin teams rebounded and were one of the few teams in the field to score lower in the 2nd round showing the resilience and determination of the squads. Butler led the "A" team in round two firing a competitive 1-over 73. After day 1, Millikin's "B" team was in 8th place followed closely by the "A" team in 9th place.

In the final round on Tuesday, Millikin's "A" team moved up 3 places to finish in a tie for 6th. Senior Jack Bollinger led the charge firing a 1-over par 73, one of the low rounds of the day in the gusty conditions. Bollinger moved 16 places up the leaderboard to finish in a tie for 15th with Ammeux who shot a steady round of 75.

Millikin Men's Golf team has a quick turnaround to compete in the CCIW Preview on Thursday, April 23rd to get a first look at the conference course.
