Box Score 2 Millikin Baseball traveled to Iowa and came away with a doubleheader sweep over Crown College, powered by an explosive offensive performance.
Game 1
After Crown struck first with a run in the opening inning, the Big Blue responded in dominant fashion, scoring 10 runs in the second inning.
Leyton Ivers got things started with a two-RBI single, followed by a three-run triple from
Ty Cribbett.
Sam Bushur added a two-run home run, and
Kolby Koslofski capped the inning with a two-run triple.
On the mound,
Caleb Akins earned the win, tossing four innings while allowing three hits, two runs, no walks, and striking out four.
Matthew Brummer secured the save with three strong innings, giving up just one hit and no runs while striking out one.
Crown added a run in the third, but Millikin kept the pressure on, scoring six more runs behind a Cribbett RBI single and home runs from Bushur and Koslofski. The Big Blue continued to build their lead in the fourth inning, adding four more runs via a wild pitch that scored Ivers, a bases-loaded walk bringing in
Pete Britton, a sacrifice fly from Koslofski plating
Julian Cabanin, and another wild pitch that allowed
Mick Niebrugge to score.
Game 2
Crown jumped out to an early lead with a three-run home run in the first inning, but the Big Blue quickly answered.
Easton Steck sparked the response with a two-run homer, while
Leyton Ivers and
Sam Bushur each drove in a run with singles.
Trey Thompson added to the rally with a two-run double to give Millikin the lead.
On the mound,
Brayden Saling got the start and delivered a solid outing, going five innings while allowing four hits and three runs, striking out six.
Nolan Reiman followed with a clean inning, giving up no hits or runs and striking out two, and
Gavin Houchins closed things out, allowing one run over one inning with one strikeout.
Millikin extended its lead in the third inning with five more runs.
Anderson Decker drew a bases-loaded walk to bring one home, Ivers and
Pete Britton each added RBI singles, Bushur worked another bases-loaded walk, and Thompson contributed a sacrifice fly.
The Big Blue kept the offense rolling in the fifth when
Kolby Koslofski singled to score Thompson. In the sixth, Ivers tripled and Britton doubled to each drive in a run, followed by a two-run home run from Bushur. Crown managed one run in the seventh off an error, but it wasn't enough to slow Millikin's momentum.
