Millikin Men's Swimming Downs Knox

In the final home meet of the 2016-17 season, the Millikin University Big Blue swim teams hosted Knox College.   Millikin honored the team's four seniors Sabrina Cipolla, Keegan Duesterhaus, Patrick Lewellyan, and Tyler Via before the meet.  The Big Blue men were victorious with a final score of 119-50, while the women were edged out 99-96.

In the women's competition the Big Blue got things started with a second place finish in the 200 Medley Relay, with the group of Felicity Speirs, Sophie Green, Caroline Lodovisi, and Sabrina Cipolla swimming to a time of 2:13.50.  Speirs then got right back in the pool and was victorious in the 1000 Freestyle, finishing in a time of 11:58.81.  In the 200 Freestyle, Lodovisi came in first with a time of 2:10.83 and teammate Brooke Brasile finished third with a time of 2:21.63.  Sami Battle continued her winning streak in the 50 free with a time of 24.65, while Cipolla finished third with a time of 28.84.  Lodovisi followed that up with a victory in the 200 IM in a time of 2:26.92.  JaCarla Anderson came in second for the 100 Fly with a time of 2:01.04.  Battle was victorious in back to back events, completing the 100 Free with a time of 53.89 and the 100 Back in a time of 1:06.67.  Speirs was again a winner in the 500 Freestyle with a time of 5:53.17, while teammate Brooke Brasile finished third with a time of 6:13.19.  In the 100 Breaststroke, Green and Julia Peterson placed second and third with times of 1:36.45 and 1:39.73.  The Big Blue quartet of Cipolla, Madeline Morthland, Peterson, and Brasile placed second in the 200 Free relay with a time of 2:06.58.

In the men's Competition the Millikin foursome of Spencer McGowan, Patrick Lewellyan, Keegan Duesterhaus, and Cole Jones started off with a victory in the 200 Medley relay, finishing with a time of 1:48.00. Cameron Lee finished second in the 1000 Free with a time of 11:22.99.  In the 200 Freestyle, McGowan and Matthew Vangunten finished one two with times of 2:02.62 and 2:05.01 respectively.  The Big Blue had another one two finish in the 50 free, with Jones and Tyler Via swimming to times of 23.49 and 24.96.  Duesterhaus and Eric Curtis teamed up to finish first and second in the 200 IM with times of 2:16.06 and 2:21.59.  Duesterhaus then also won the 100 Fly in a time of 1:00.12 with teammate Via coming in third with a time of 1:13.06.  Lewellyan and McGowan finished first and second in a tight 100 Freestyle race with times of 53.49 and 53.60.  Jones was also victorious in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 1:01.16.  Curtis came in second in the 500 Free with a time of 5:24.39, while Cameron Lee finished third in a time of 5:29.07.  Lewellyan and Vangunten had a one two finish in the 100 Breaststroke, with Lewellyan narrowly out touching Vangunten 1:07.50 to 1:07.70.  The Big Blue capped of the meet with a victory in the 200 Freestyle relay featuring Via, Vangunten, Curtis, and Lee with a time of 1:41.42.

In exhibition swims at the end of the meet, two new pool records were set in the 100 Individual Medley.  Sami Battle re-broke her own record with a time of 1:03.55.  Cole Jones set the men's pool record, narrowly out touching Lewellyan with a time of 58.95.

The Big Blue will now focus their training efforts towards the final meet of the season.  The CCIW Conference Championships will be taking place in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin from Feb 9-11.
