Millikin Wrestling Dominates Elmhurst in Season Opener

The defending two-time College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Champions Millikin University wrestling team opened the season in dominating fashion defeating Elmhurst University 47-6 on November 1 at the Griswold Center in Decatur.

With fans back in the Griswold Center for wrestling for the first time since 2020, Millikin opened the evening unveiling its Championship banner and holding a ring ceremony for the 2021 team champions.

On the mat, Millikin wasted no time taking control with transfer Tommy Russell scoring a pin at 125 pounds at the 1:23 mark of the match over Jake Mora. Zac Blasioli won at 133 pounds with a 14-5 major decision over Justin Hames.

Elmhurst then scored its only points of the match at 141 pounds when Jimmy McAuliffe pinned Millikin's DJ Millet at 2:49.

Millikin then posted three straight wins by pin with Jordan Carson pinning Andre Neal at 2:45 at 149, Peter McCusker pinning Jeff Nugent at 4:12 and defending national champion Bradan Birt pinning Ronnie Massari in 51 seconds at 165.

Dejon Glaster scored a 14-6 major decision win over Joe Caringella at 174 pounds and sophomore Micah Downs pinned Scott Anderson in 45 seconds at 184.

Freshman Niles Ager made his Big Blue debut with a victory by fall at 2:56 over Norbert Crecan. Millikin's final victory was at 285 pounds with Brayan Reyes defeating Robert Pena 10-3.

Millikin will be back in varsity action on Wednesday when they travel to Kenosha Wisconsin for duals with Carthage College and the Milwaukee School of Engineer.
