Swimming Defeats North Central on Senior Day

The Millikin Men's and Women's Swim teams defeated North Central College in their home meet at the Decatur YMCA Saturday, February 20. They celebrated two seniors in the women's program, Milissa Gegg and Hannah Sweeney. Gegg is a four-year member of the Millikin swim team, and Sweeney is a first-year member for the Big Blue after playing soccer at MacMurray College for three years.

The Big Blue women beat the Cardinals by a team score of 158-20, and the men won 73-38.

On the women's side, they began with a victory in the 200 medley relay with the team of Liv Marquardt, Laura Atkinson, Kaitlyn Mayer, and Brigid Duesterhaus (1:56.13). Avery Fisher, Katie Yelaska, Hope Roderick, and Kelli Sangston secured the victory in the 200 freestyle relay (1:53.09).

Brigid Duesterhaus took two events, the 50 freestyle (24.95) and the 100 freestyle (56.08), as did Liv Marquardt in the 100 backstroke (1:04.44) and 100 butterfly (1:04.29). Also earning victories for Millikin were Taylen Zahnow in the 500 freestyle (5:42.33), Kaitlyn Meyer in the 200 freestyle (2:07.32), and Laura Atkinson in the 100 breaststroke (1:13.31).

Senior Hannah Sweeney was the winner of the 200 IM (2:50.27), and senior Milissa Gegg was part of two relay teams that placed second in the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay.

For the men, Vladimir Molin was the winner of the 50 and 100 and freestyle races (22.43, 49.84). Nick Nemeth posted victories in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.89) and 200 IM (2:13.27), while Joseph Smiley won the 100 butterfly (1:04.85) and 500 freestyle (5:47.73).

The men's relay team of Nick Nemeth, Joe Smiley, Omar Ayad, and Vlad Molin also won the 200 freestyle relay (1:42.45).

The Big Blue swim teams will be back in the pool for the CCIW Championships, February 26-27.
