Miller Earns CCIW Defensive Honors

NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Carthage's Bryce Lowe, Millikin's Quinton Miller and Washington University in St. Louis' Chris Vartanian were selected as the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Football Student-Athletes of the Week on Monday.
          Lowe, a freshman quarterback from Lutz, Florida and Steinbrenner High School, completed 16-of-24 passes for 301 yards and four touchdown passes in a 62-35 win over Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday. The Firebirds' offense finished with 458 total yards against the Titans including 340 passing and 118 rushing yards. Lowe finished with touchdown passes of 20, 60, 42 and 35 yards.
          Miller, a junior defensive lineman from Houston, Texas and Westbury High School, totaled five tackles (four solo) while helping lead the Big Blue to a 32-25 win over Carroll on Saturday evening. He finished with 3.5 tackles-for-loss (-24 yards), including 2.5 sacks (-21 yards). The Big Blue defense held the Pioneers to -4 rushing yards.
          Vartanian, a junior kicker from Newport Beach, California and St. Margaret's Episcopal School, won Special Team Student-Athlete of the Week honors for the second-straight Monday after helping lead the Bears to a 27-7 win at Elmhurst on Saturday. He finished 2-for-2 on field goals including distances of 32 and 33 yards, respectively, and was also 3-for-3 on extra point attempts. He had six kickoffs for 361 yards for a 60.2-yard average and three touchbacks.
