Millikin’s Gibson Signs with Prospect League Team

DECATUR, Illinois—Millikin junior third baseman Kyle Gibson (Niles, Niles West H.S.) has signed on to play for the Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp in the Prospect League for the summer 2024 season.
          The team based in Peru, Illinois is part of Prospect League, which is a top collegiate prospect league playing in the Midwest.
          Before hitting the field for the Pistol Shrimp, Gibson will play his third season for the Big Blue. After earning College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Second team honors as a freshman, Gibson had a breakout season in 2023. Last season, Gibson hit .404 with nine doubles, five triples, two home runs and 29 RBI. He had a .518 on base percentage and a .983 fielding percentage with two errors with 31 putouts and 87 assists. Gibson was named to the CCIW All-Conference First Team and earned an ABCA\Rawlings Gold Glove for NCAA DIII at third base. Gibson was selected to the ABCA\Rawlings All-Region First Team and the D3baseball.com All-Region Team.
          Gibson excels in the classroom as well as the baseball diamond. In 2023, he was named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team and earned CCIW Academic All-Conference honors.
          Millikin looks to build off its 26-17 record last season. The Big Blue open the 2024 season at Birmingham Southern College on February 16. Millikin's first home game is March 2 vs. Coe College at the Workman Family Baseball Field.
