Shumaker Finishes Fifth at NCAA Indoor Track Championships

Millikin junior Jake Shumaker finished in fifth place in the 800 Meters at the 2023 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships in Birmingham, Alabama on March 11, 2023.

The competitors in the men's 800 Meters were not interested in a slow tactical affair; a hot opening lap saw the runners strung out in the Birmingham Crossplex. Shumaker got right on the hot pace, initially positioning himself in third place. The leaders began to pull away from the rest of the field, while Shumaker managed to hold on for a fifth place finish. This means Shumaker secured his first All-American trophy.

This is an improvement on his 18th place finish at last year's Outdoor Championships. Shumaker broke his own school record with a time of 1.50.43, the second time breaking it in two days.
