Millikin Baseball Receiving National Attention

DECATUR, Illinois—The Millikin University baseball team is receiving national attention this week receiving votes in two NCAA Division III polls. The Big Blue are ranked in top 10 in the NCAA Division III in several statistical categories.

Millikin is 20-7 overall and off to a 6-1 start in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) after winning its last four straight conference games.

The Big Blue received 34 votes in the Collegiate Baseball American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Top 25 poll for NCAA Division III release on April 11. Millikin is six spots outside the top 25. The Big Blue received seven votes in the D3baseball.com Top 25.

Millikin is ranked in the top five in seven different team statistical categories in NCAA Division III. The Big Blue pitching staff is ranked first in the country in shoutouts with seven. Millikin is ranked second in the country in team ERA at 2.90 and second in hits allowed per nine innings with 6.73. Millikin is fifth in WHIP at 1.21. The Big Blue are third in fielding percentage at .982. Millikin is ranked second in Division III in sacrifice bunts with 33 and fourth in stolen bases with 84.

Millikin has several players in the top 10 national rankings. Sophomore third baseman Kyle Gibson leads the country in sacrifice bunts with 12 and is second with sacrifice bunts per game at 0.44. Second baseman Tommy Shaw ranks fourth in Division III with sacrifice flies with five. Shortstop Liam McGill is ninth in the country in stolen bases with 21. Relief pitcher Aaron Agee is sixth in the country in saves with six and starting pitcher Drew Detmers in ninth in the country in games started with nine.
