Baseball's Ivers and Britton win Prospect League Championship

Cape Catfish win 2nd straight title

DECATUR, IL – Millikin University Senior Leyton Ivers and Junior Pete Britton return to campus as Prospect League champions after helping the Cape Catfish capture their second consecutive title.

The championship marks their second title in a row and third since 2020. The Catfish also set a new league record for most wins in a season with 45 wins, surpassing the previous mark of 43 held by the Catfish and the Terre Haute Rex.

Ivers finished the season hitting .328 with 5 doubles, a triple, a home run, 27 RBIs, and 43 runs scored. He was also a threat on the bases swiping 15 bases on 19 attempts.  Britton finished the season slashing .311/.387/.441 with 33 hits, a double, two triples, and a home run, 26 RBIs, 11 stolen bases, and 37 runs scored.

Ivers would go on to start in all three games of the Championship series against the Terre Haute Rex tallying 4 runs, 3 hits, 2 RBI, and 4 walks during the series. Britton would get the start in game two in which he would go 1-4 with 2 runs scored. He would enter game three off the bench and deliver the series' biggest hit in the bottom of the sixth driving in two runs with a single to centerfield. The hit proved to be all the Catfish needed as Cape secured its second straight Prospect League Championship.
