Shumaker Earns All-American Honors

Millikin University senior Jake Shumaker (Decatur, Mt. Zion H.S.) earned All-American honors finishing in eighth place in the 800 Meter Finals on May 25 at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Mrytle Beach, South Carolina.

The race began almost three hours late after a lengthy weather delay. Shumaker finished the race in eighth place in a time of 1:51.08, which improved his spot in second place on Millikin's Outdoor Track and Field Top 10 Performance List. Shumaker started the race fast leading the first lap, but the field caught and passed in the final 200 meters.

It was the second All-American performance in Shumaker's career after a fifth-place finish in the Indoor Championships in 2023.

Shumaker feat was Millikin's second All-American performance of the meet with freshman Kyle Hensley (Mt. Zion, H.S.) finishing in second place in the Pole Vault on Thursday. Hensley set a new school record clearing 5.19 meters (17-0.25).

Hensley was the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Pole Vault Champion clearing 5.18 meters (17-00.00) back in March.
