Swimming Rounds out Final Day of Competition at 2025 CCIW Championships

Day Three Recap

The final day of the 2025 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin championships rounded out on Saturday, February 22 in Pleasant Prairie, Wis. 

Aly Barnes posted a top three finish in the women's 100 yard freestyle, placing third in the race in a time of 53.28. In the men's race, Dawsen Loafman finished in 11th in a time of 47.58.

Ridge Batchelor and Jacob Bloom each made the finals in the 200 yard breaststroke race, placing 15th and 16th in the finals.

Yoanna Barajas and Gavin Dobson each made the finals in the 200 yard butterfly.

The 400 yard freestyle relay team of Erin Powell, Barnes, Grace Meacham, and Kendall Rossignol posted a sixth place finish in a time of 3:51.13, then the men's relay team swam a 3:18.91 to place fifth with Msanaa Bosland, Loafman, Dobson, and Aaron Amaya swimming legs.

Augustana College claimed the championships in both the men's and women's standings. the Big Blue placed sixth on both the men's and women's sides.

Loafman and Abigail Penning were named the RESPECT Award winners for the Big Blue. The CCIW RESPECT award is presented at the conclusion of every sports season with each varsity program recognizing one student-athlete. RESPECT Award recipients have distinguished themselves as an integral member of the team, their institution and community by upholding the values of Responsibility, Enthusiasm, Service, Pride, Excellence, Collaboration and Trust. The RESPECT Award recognizes the intangible traits a student-athlete possesses that exemplify great character and encourages inclusiveness and a positive culture.

Penning also received the Dennis Ryan Outstanding Performer. The Dennis Ryan Outstanding Performer Award is named in honor of former North Central swimming & diving coach Dennis Ryan. Consideration is given to athletes who overcome hardship to find success, bring out the best in others, provide leadership through adversity, give their best and positively represent the sport of swimming & diving. The award is presented to one men's and one women's athlete at the conclusion of the CCIW Championship Meet each year.

Day Two Recap

The 2025 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Championships continued Friday, February 21 from the RecPlex in Pleasant Prairie, Wis. Aly Barnes posted a podium finish in the 200 yard freestyle in the day of competition.

The finals session started off with the women's 200 yard medley relay, with the team of Erin Powell, Kendall Rossignol, Yoanna Barajas, and Barnes finishing sixth in 1:57.38. On the men's side, the team of Alexander Tabuchi, Jacob Bloom, Aaron Amaya, and Ridge Batchelor swam a 1:4.50 to finish fifth. 

Tabuchi was the 13th to finish in the men's 400 yard IM in a time of 4:50.63 to score four points for MU. 

Barajas just nearly missed making the finals in the women's 100 yard butterfly, swimming a 1:06.47 to place 17th and miss by a spot. Msanaa Bosland finished 14th in the men's race in a time of 54.59.

Then, it was Barnes swimming a 1:57.01 to place fourth in the 200 yard freestyle to score 15 points for the Big Blue. Bosland posted another B final finish for the men's race, swimming a 1:53.08. 

Rossignol scored some individual points in the women's 100 yard breaststroke, posting a time of 1:14.44 to place 15th overall. Batchelor and Amaya each notched point scoring finishes in the men's race, placing 15th and 16th, respectively.

Powell placed 14th in the women's 100 yard backstroke, and Grace Meacham recorded a scoring finish in 16th. Loafman made the A final on the men's side, placing 7th in a time of 53.04. Tabuchi was 14th.

With one day remaining in the 2025 CCIW Championships, the Big Blue are in sixth in both standings, with 122 points for the women, and 131 points for the men. Carthage leads on the women's side with 578.5 points, and Augustana holds the lead in the men's ranking with 651 points. 

Day One Recap

The Big Blue swim teams traveled to Pleasant Prarie, Wis. for the 2025 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Championships, hosted at the RecPlex. With day one mainly consisting of diving competitions and Thursday's races in the books, the Big Blue are underway in the third day of action at the championships.

Wednesday's competition saw just the 800 yard freestyle relay races. On the women's side, the team of Erin Powell, Aly Barnes, Yoanna Barajas, and Kendall Rossignol placed sixth, setting a new Millikin record in a time of 8:26.33. The men saw a similar result, with Dawsen Loafman, Gavin Dobson, Aaron Amaya, and Msanaa Bosland swimming a 7:33.94 to place sixth. 

On Thursday, the men's relay team of Dobson, Bosland, Amaya, and Loafman was back in action and placed fifth in the 200 yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:30.60. 

Individually, Amaya swam a 2:09.32 in the 200 yard IM to place 14th overall. 

On the women's side, Barnes swam a 24.87 in the 50 yard freestyle prelims, then followed up with a 24.73 in the finals to place fifth. 

Loafman was 12th overall in the men's 50 yard freestyle race, swimming a 21.79. 

The women's relay team of Barnes, Rossignol, Barajas, and Grace Meacham swam a 4:21.25 in the 400 yard medley relay to place sixth, then the men's team of Loafman, Jacob Bloom, Bosland, and Dobson swam a 3:43.22 to also place sixth.

Heading into Friday, the Big Blue are sixth in both the men's and women's standings, with both the men and women scoring 79 points in the opening days.

Competition continues on Friday, with the 2025 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Championships concluding on Saturday, February 22.
