Big Blue Sweep Key Road Doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Millikin baseball team swept a key College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) road doubleheader over Elmhurst University on April 26 in games played at Wheaton College Field in Carol Stream, Illinois. The Big Blue won game one 10-1 and took the second game 7-2.

Millikin won game one 10-1 behind the pitching of Zach O'Donnell who threw seven and one-third innings allowing only one run on eight hits while striking out 11. O'Donnell is 6-3 on the season. Griffin Neuwig pitched the final inning and two-third allowing two hits and no runs.

The Big Blue pounded out 15 innings scoring at least one run in six of the nine innings.
Sophomore Kolby Koslofski lead the offense with two hits including a double and a triple and three RBI. Liam McGill had three hits and scored two runs. Sam Bushur, Tyler Gade and Hayden Stork each had two hits and two RBI. Ty Cribbett also had two hits.

Brett Vercruysse had three hits to lead the Bluejays. Rock Smith added two.

A strong pitching performance was key in the 7-2 game two win as well with freshman Caleb Akins throwing six and two-thirds innings allowing just two hits and one earned run while striking out eight. Nolan Reiman pitched two and a third innings allowing one hit and one run.

Millikin again scored in six of the nine innings collecting 12 hits. Gade had three hits including a double and scored two runs. McGill had a double and a triple scoring twice.
Koslofski had two hits. Andy Niebrugge drove in three runs.

Millikin is now 17-18, 7-9 while Elmhurst falls to 9-27, 3-13. The two teams will play on Sunday at 12 p.m. at either Butterfield Park in Elmhurst or the Wheaton College Field in Carol Stream.
