Box Score Millikin traveled to Illinois College on Sunday and came away with a 9–2 win, using a strong early start and consistent offense throughout the game.
The Big Blue struck first in the opening inning when
Sam Bushur singled to right, scoring
Ty Cribbett. They added on in the second as
Trey Thompson launched a two-run home run to make it 3–0.
Millikin extended its lead in the fourth inning when Cribbett tripled, bringing in
Pete Britton and
Julian Cabanin. Illinois College answered with a run in the bottom half, but Millikin quickly responded with a big offensive stretch. Thompson stayed hot at the plate, doubling to left center to score
Easton Steck and Bushur, while Cabanin followed with a sacrifice fly to plate Thompson. Cribbett continued the momentum with an RBI single to score
Aiden Simmons.
Illinois College added one more run in the eighth, but the Big Blue remained in control to secure the 9–2 victory.
Thompson led the offense, going 2-for-4 with a home run, double, and four RBI's. Cribbett, Bushur, and Thompson each recorded two hits, while Simmons and
Kolby Koslofski added one hit apiece.
On the mound,
Brayden Saling earned the win, throwing six innings while allowing one run on four hits with two strikeouts.
Jayden McNaught closed out the game, pitching three innings with one run allowed on four hits and two strikeouts.
Millikin will continue conference play on Wednesday at home against Illinois Wesleyan at 4 p.m.
