Box Score Millikin traveled to Augustana and came away with an 11–7 win in a back-and-forth matchup.
Millikin struck first in the opening inning, as
Carder Reich singled to center to score
Leyton Ivers.
Kolby Koslofski followed with a sacrifice fly to bring home
Pete Britton, and
Sam Bushur added an RBI on a fielder's choice to score
Ty Cribbett, giving the Big Blue an early 3–0 lead. Augustana answered with one run in the first and another in the second to cut the lead to 3–2.
In the fourth inning, Ivers came through again with an RBI single to score
Anderson Decker, but Augustana responded with a two-run home run in the bottom half to tie the game at 4–4. Augustana then took the lead in the fifth, but Ivers delivered once more with a game-tying RBI single to make it 5–5. The Vikings quickly regained control with two runs, going up 7–5.
Millikin battled back as
Mick Niebrugge delivered a clutch double to center field, scoring Reich and Koslofski to tie the game. The Big Blue broke things open in the eighth inning, starting with a bases-loaded walk by Bushur to score Britton. Niebrugge added another RBI with a single to plate Cribbett, and
Aiden Simmons followed with an RBI single to right field to bring home Bushur, extending the lead to 11–7.
On the mound,
Joey Ross started and pitched four innings, allowing five runs on five hits with two strikeouts.
Brody Stonecipher allowed just one hit while striking out one and giving up no runs.
Nolan Reiman contributed with two strikeouts, while
Gavin Houchins was dominant in three innings of work, allowing just one hit while striking out six and not giving up a run.
Offensively, freshman
Mick Niebrugge had a standout performance, going 4-for-6 with four RBIs and a double.
Next up the Big Blue will face Carroll at home this weekend.
