Millikin Wrestlers Split in Wrestling at Kirkland

The #18 Millikin wrestling team split a pair of duals in the Wrestling at Kirkland event held on January 18 at Millikin's Kirkland Fine Arts Center in Decatur, Illinois.
          The Big Blue wrestlers took center stage to defeat MacMurray College 48-0 and lost to #15 Wabash College 25-15.
          In the opening match, the Big Blue benefitted from Highlander forfeits in five weight classes. In action on the mat, freshman Bradan Birt, who is ranked seventh in the nation at 149 pounds, defeated Andre Pino by technical fall 19-0 in the 157 pound weight class. Millikin's Austin Hedrick scored a major decision 12-3 over Zander Moore at 174. Dwight Brown was victorious at 184 6-5. Millikin's final victory on the mat came at 285 with freshman Diata Drayton winning by fall at 1:19.
          The match of the night came in the second dual when Birt won 13-10 over Austin Bethel. Birt was down 8-0, but rallied to win in thrilling fashion. Other Big Blue wins over Wabash came from freshman Griffin Meeker 5-3 at 184 pounds and freshman Isaiah Herrera 6-3 at 197. At 285, Myron Hamilton picked up a win by forfeit.
          Millikin is ranked #18 in the latest D3Wrestle.com poll and #24 in the NWCA poll.
Wabash is ranked #15 in the NWCA poll. Millikin is now 9-5 in dual meets.
          Millikin will wrestle on Saturday, Jan. 20 at the Max Servies Duals at Wabash College.
