Millikin Track Claims Two CCIW Titles in Day One of CCIW Meet

The Millikin track team claimed two event titles on day one of the 2024 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Indoor Track and Field Championships being held at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois on Feb. 23-24.

Millikin's Thomas Hills won the Men's Long Jump with jump of 7.02 meters (23-0.50), which is the third best jump in Big Blue Indoor track history. Caleb Bleich finished in third place in 6.70 meters.

The Big Blue scored its second CCIW Championships in the Pole Vault with Kyle Hensley winning with a vault of 4.75 meters (15-7).

Several Millikin athletes earned All-Conference honors by finishing in the top eight of their event or competing on a top four relay team.

Millikin finished second in the Women's Distance Medley Relay tying Millikin's school record in 12:31.03. Emma Mallory, Itzel Garcia, Krista Koke and Alyssa Ruiz competed for the Big Blue.

The Men's Distance Medley Relay Team of Brandon Mattsey, Emmett Emmons, Reece Butcher and Jake Shumaker finished fourth in 10:36.70.

Sophomore Hailey Newill and Haylee Yelle tied for fifth in the Pole Vault at 3.31 meters (10-10.25).

Itzel Garcia finished in seventh in the Women's Long Jump at 5.23 meters (17-2).

Bradyn Olmstead was eighth in the Men's 5000 Meters in 15:18.56.

Millikin sophomores Emmanuel Nwatu (8.64 seconds) and Dayton Lasack (8.87 seconds) both qualified for Saturday's finals in the Men's 60 Meter Hurdles. Nwatu had the third fastest time in the prelims with Lasack running the sixth best time.

Colin Griffin had the seventh fastest time in the 60 Meter Dash prelims at 7.02 seconds, which will advance him to Saturday's finals.

After day one Millikin is in fourth in the men's competition and sixth in the women's events.
