Millikin Fourth at CCIW Indoor Track Championships

The Millikin men's track team finished in fourth place and the Big Blue women were sixth at the 2024 College Conference of Illinois (CCIW) Indoor Track and Field Championships at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois on Feb. 23-24.

Millikin won its third event title of the Championships on Saturday with the Men's 4x400 Relay Team of Dayton Lasack, Colin Griffin, Caleb Bleich and Jake Shumaker coming home in first in 3:20.27.

Athletes were shooting top eight finishes in individual events our participate on a top four relay to earn All-Conference honors.

Emmanuel Nwatu finished second in the 60 Meter Hurdles in a school record time of 8.51 seconds. Lasack was sixth in 8.83 seconds.

The Big Blue had three runners earn All-Conference honors in the 400 Meters lead by Lasack who finished third in 49.77. Emmett Emmons was sixth in 50.70 seconds, which is second all-time for Millikin. Bleich was seventh in 51.12.

Millikin's efforts in the 200 Meters produced three All-Conference performances. Griffin was third at 22.38. Emmons was fourth in 22.72 and Nwatu was seventh at 22.82.

Shumaker finished second in the 800 Meters in 1:52.43 with Nolan Bates finishing in fourth in 1:55.42.

Griffin was fifth in the 60 Meters in 7.03 seconds.

Dalton Hoadley finished sixth in the Heptathlon with 3,663 points.

In the women's competition, Alyssa Ruiz finished second in the 1 Mile Run in 5:11.52 and the 800 Meters in 2:20.20. Krista Koke was sixth in the 800 Meters in 2:24.24.

Hannah Sago tied for third in the High Jump at 1.52 meters (4-11.75).

On Friday, Millikin's Thomas Hills won the Men's Long Jump with jump of 7.02 meters (23-0.50), which is the third best jump in Big Blue Indoor track history. Bleich finished in third place in 6.70 meters. On Saturday, Hills finished eighth in the Triple Jump at 13.01 meters.

The Big Blue scored its second CCIW Championship in the Pole Vault with Kyle Hensley winning with a vault of 4.75 meters (15-7).

Millikin finished second in the Women's Distance Medley Relay tying Millikin's school record in 12:31.03. Emma Mallory, Itzel Garcia, Koke and Ruiz competed for the Big Blue.

The Men's Distance Medley Relay Team of Brandon Mattsey, Emmons, Reece Butcher and Shumaker finished fourth in 10:36.70.

Sophomore Hailey Newill and Haylee Yelle tied for fifth in the Pole Vault at 3.31 meters (10-10.25).

Garcia finished in seventh in the Women's Long Jump at 5.23 meters (17-2).

Bradyn Olmstead was eighth in the Men's 5000 Meters in 15:18.56.
