Decatur, IL – The Millikin University women's soccer team heads into the 2026 season with excitement and optimism with an amazing group of athletes.
Women's soccer is entering the 2026 season seeking to be expansive and willing to take risks on the field for higher reward.
Their schedule is heavy on the road with only seven home games at Frank M. Lindsay Field this season. Conference play will begin late September on the road with Wheaton, Elmhurst, Augustana, and North Park all at home.
New additions to the team include 10 freshman and one transfer. These individuals show great potential and can contribute to high-level play in the growing competition. Graduating
Elly Hermanson,
a four-time second team all-conference performer, will leave big shoes to fill as she logged many minutes and accolades in her time at Millikin.
Junior captain
Izzy Jones, a second team all-conference player, wrapped up the 2025 season with a team-high total of five goals and two assists. "She has great teammates around her", says head Coach Doherty; emphasizing that each player has a role to fill and all have a chance to make an impact.
Coach Doherty will be entering his 9
th season with assistant coach
Consuelo Michel in her 2
nd season. "Bringing the energy every single practice and working together as a team with Doherty" is the standard Michel has set for this season.
Doherty and Michel are "over the moon to get going", looking forward "to seeing [their players] train and get after it".
Women's soccer will open their season on Tuesday, September 1 at Knox College in Galesburg, IL with kickoff at 7 PM at Jorge Prats Field or on the Midwest Conference Network.
